Five lessons I learned at the Ferrari Owners Club
My first word as a baby was auto, which is Dutch for car. The rest is history. I’ve been a car enthusiast my entire life.
The Netherlands isn’t exactly known for its great driving roads, so I went looking for like-minded people to go on drives with. That’s how I ended up at the Ferrari Owners Club.
Not a place I ever thought I’d find myself. I grew up middle class, just like my friends.
Suddenly, I was in a room with 40 Ferrari owners. It gets you thinking.
These were all people from unusual walks of life, just like me, and I wanted to learn from them.
Here are five lessons I picked up from spending time at the Ferrari Club:
1. Almost every financially successful person is a business owner.
Almost every single one owned their own business. Two of them were dentists, but they ran their own practices.
Few started off their career running a business, but that’s where they all ended up. They built a strong skillset, gained experience, saved money, met the right people, and eventually took the risk of starting their own business.
It confirmed what I already suspected: you can make great money working for someone else, and not everyone is cut out for entrepreneurship—but if you want the highest income, owning your own business is often the way to get there.
2. These people owned everyday businesses.
They own everyday businesses, run them extremely well and work their asses off.
Working-class people who started a trucking company. A gardening business. An app-based parking company. They solved other people's problems by coming up with simple solutions.
I learned that you can be extremely successful without inventing technology that can change the world.
You do not need to be building rockets like Elon Musk, build the world's largest retail platform in Amazon, or build the software that made it all happen like Bill Gates did.
You can be incredibly successful doing everyday jobs, as long as you're willing to work extremely hard and think outside the box.
3. They’re real people - not what you see on TV
Almost everyone was down-to-earth, friendly, and curious. They couldn’t stop asking questions, once I had told them I play poker professionally.
Would they be just as friendly to someone without a Ferrari? Who knows. But when your life is unusual, you learn to protect yourself. Not everyone has good intentions, and trust is earned.
Once they know you’re real, they skip the small talk and genuinely want to get to know you.
4. The theme is self-improvement.
The common theme at an event like this is work. Work ethic runs deep.
These people aren’t just driven by money—they’re driven by progress.
They’re always asking questions, learning from each other, and tweaking how they do business.
Great entrepreneurs don’t sit still. They double down on what works while keeping an eye out for what could work better.
Success isn’t static. You evolve or you fall behind. And the best way to evolve is to talk to people from all walks of life and find out what they know.
Many are happy to share their knowledge.
5. Get rich with discipline - stay rich with discipline.
Making money doesn’t mean throwing it around for show.
At a Ferrari event, people talk about tire discounts, cheap upgrades, and where to find the best deals. There’s no shame in showing you don’t have endless money. Just smart decision-making.
Trying to show off is usually a sign that you don’t belong. The people who do belong don’t need to pretend.
You’ll stand out more by being real than by trying to impress anyone. If someone judges you for not pretending, they’re not worth impressing anyway.
What I learned—and how you can apply it
Spending time around successful people didn’t just teach me about wealth—it taught me about character.
These weren’t lottery winners. These were disciplined, curious, hard-working people who built something real.
So what can you take from this?
You don’t need to be born rich. You don’t need to be a genius. But you do need to take ownership of your time, your finances, learning, and your path.
That’s what separates people who thrive from people who drift.
Whether you're earning six figures or trying to get there, I help people stop leaking money and start building real, lasting wealth.
It starts with a financial plan, so you know exactly what to do to achieve your dreams.
